The Story of Janessa.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a passion for photography. I remember going on adventures with friends to cool spots and doing “photoshoots” with my phone camera! For me, it’s always been about capturing moments in time that can be cherished forever. I also believe in storytelling through portraits, which is why I include a mix of both posed and candid images in your gallery.

My family roots are from both Huslia, Alaska (Interior of Alaska), and Tecapán, El Salvador (Central America). I primarily grew up learning about my Alaska Native heritage, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been educating myself on my Salvadoreña roots. Growing up, we would go to fish camp in the village, staying for 4-7 days at a time. My favorite part was living off the land—hauling our own water, cooking over a fire, and living without electricity. We were fully present with each other, working as a family to process fish for winter. In the fall, we would go moose hunting. We live a subsistence lifestyle, which I’m incredibly proud of. We use every part of the animal to show respect for its life. I am so grateful to be Indigenous.

Living in “The City” gave me the opportunity to grow my photography business and work with many wonderful people. I enjoy working with all kinds of clients from diverse backgrounds. I’ve learned that every client is unique, and I’ve developed the ability to adjust the atmosphere to make photoshoots enjoyable for everyone. As a result, even those who were reluctant to come often say, ‘Wow, it’s over already?’

A little about me: I absolutely love coffee and tacos (seriously, let’s grab some!). I had a beautiful Alaskan Malamute who recently crossed the rainbow bridge, but we shared a happy life together. I create beaded earrings, enjoy cooking and baking, love to relax in bed, and my favorite color is brown. I also have a deep love for the outdoors.
